After floating the seas this little Blue Button jellyfish washed ashore and became a stunning piece of art. Blues and greens flare from the center, and the slippery texture lends an abstract painting feel to the image.
The science bit: A Blue Button Jelly is a colonial organism, not an actual jellyfish, and should not be confused with the extremely dangerous Portuguese Man ‘O War… which is also colonial… and blue. Colonial means it is made up of specialized individual animals of the same species called zooids or polyps. The polyps are attached to one another and are unable to survive independently. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork
